The Project for Determining the Outbreak Mechanisms and Development of a Surveillance Model for Multi-Drug Resistant Bacteria

   From 13^th to 17^th April 2015, the joint team of National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) coordinated by the anthropology working group of the Project has conducted a baseline KAP survey in Ba Vi district of Hanoi, collecting information on households' hygiene conditions/knowledge from focused groups. A KAP survey, which stands for Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices survey, is one of quantitative methodologies with observation and questionnaires to evaluate factors necessary for improving public health conditions.
   In the Project, the KAP survey is applied to design or evaluate public health intervention activities to reduce the spread of drag resistant bacteria in a local community. The survey team visited a commune in Ba Vi district far around 70 km from Hanoi and made unstructured group discussion about hygiene habitations, usage of antibiotics, and so on. After the group discussions, the team observed households in the commune and asked a structured questionnaire on hygiene habits and so on. Collected data are analyzing by the NIN team and will be used to design possible intervention activities such as hygiene promotion activities and communication models to improve behavior to reduce the prevelance of drug resistant bacteria in the commune.
